Robert F. Bower, 91, Elysburg

— ELYSBURG — Robert F. “Bob” Bower, 91, of 106 Pocahontas Lane, and formerly of Coal Township, passed away early Friday morning, June 14, 2013, at Columbia Montour Home Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville, Montour County.

He was born in Shamokin on Aug. 12, 1921, a son of the late Ruth (Chapman) and Fred  Bower.

Bob graduated in 1938 from Coal Township High School.

He served in the Navy as a Baker 3/C during World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge and also the Victory Medal, Pacific Theater Ribbon with 9 Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Stars.

On Dec. 2, 1961, in Shamokin, he married Elaine (Shinskie) Bower, who preceded him in death on Dec. 24, 2009.

Mr. Bower was employed as a TV manager for Service Electric and also helped manage the television extension in Shamokin. He had previously managed the James Madison Hotel, Shamokin.

Bob was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Shamokin, and the Uniontown Fire Company, Tharptown.

Robert is survived by two daughters, Sandra Chambers, of Arizona and Deborah Rowcotsky, of Allentown; a son, Jack Tokar, of Danville; a sister, Jean, wife of John Yost, of Northumberland; a grandson, David Mayberry, of Arizona; and a granddaughter, Kiersten Tokar, of Danville.

In addition to his parents and Elaine, his loving wife of 48 years, Bob was preceded in death by two grandsons, Eric Chambers and Ronald Rowcotsky, both in 1999.

Friends are invited to call at the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township, followed by the funeral service at 11, with Chaplain Robert Barner of Geisinger Medical Center Hospice officiating.

Interment with Naval Military Honors will follow the service at Northumberland Memorial Park, Garden of Tranquility, Sunbury.
