THOMPSONTOWN — Leonard R. Zellers, 85, of Thompsontown, died at 9:40 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin.
He was born Nov. 28, 1927, in Enola, Cumberland County, the son of the late William L. and Emma R. (Shadle) Zellers. On Dec. 16, 1950, he married the former Virginia Zaring, who survives. They shared more than 62 years of marriage.
Leonard was a 1946 graduate of Sunbury High School and proudly served his country as a sergeant in the Army.
Following his military service, he worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Harrisburg, and later at S&S Chevrolet, Thompsontown, after which he owned and operated Zellers Gulf Station, Newport, for 25 years.
He was a member of Liverpool United Methodist Church, the Newport Social Order of Owls and tNewport Lodge 381, Free & Accepted Masons.
Leonard enjoyed fishing, gardening, animals and going to the beach.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine Z. and Ed Amey, of Thompsontown, and Rebecca and David Spencer, of New Columbia; three grandsons, David B. Spencer, Anthony E. Spencer and Matthew R. Spencer; and five great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. Paul Kauffman officiating.
Interment will be in St. John (Barner’s) Cemetery, Liverpool, with full military burial honors accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council.
