James R. Manley, 72, Watsontown

— WATSONTOWN — James R. Manley, 72, of Watsontown, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 3, 2014, surrounded by his family at the Watsontown Health and Rehabilitation where he had resided for the past few weeks.  

He was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Shamokin, a son of the late David and Kathryn (Bowman) Manley.  On Sept. 16, 1963, he married the former Linda L. Rager and they have celebrated 50 years of marriage.

James attended Danville Schools and was a veteran of the Army and the Army National Guard.  

He retired in 1993 from ACF Industries after 22 years of service. Earlier in life he worked at the former Zenith and Jasper Wood Company, both of Watsontown.

James was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post in Milton, a member and past president of the Milton Eagles Lodge 1208 for more than 50 years, a member and past governor of the Milton Moose Lodge 171, a member of the 40 et 8, Milton; and the Rock Run Church of Muncy Valley.  

An avid hunter, he was a member of the Beaver Run Gun Club of Shinglehouse in Potter County, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Grace R. and Richard C. Werner, of Watsontown; two grandchildren, Jesse L. Williams and his wife, Lindsay, and Stacey R. Jones and her husband, Chris, all of Watsontown; four great-grandchildren, Garrett and Gabrealla Williams and Christopher and Katherine Jones; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary P. and Donald Koons, of Sunbury; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, John D. and Ann Manley, of Muncy, Donald W. Manley and his companion, Mary Ann, of Shamokin, and Gerald E. and Mary Manley, of Sunbury.

He was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Manley; and one sister, Kathryn C. Manley.

Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main St., Watsontown where the funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with his pastor, the Rev. James Bechtel, officiating.  

Burial with full military honors will follow in Delaware Run Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Jim’s memory be made to Rock Run Church, P.O. Box  58, Muncy Valley, PA 17758, or the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.
