Joseph E. Reed, 76, Pillow

— PILLOW — Joseph E. Reed, 76, of Pillow, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at the Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.

He was born Jan. 26, 1937, in Harrisburg, a son of the late Marlin S. Sr. and Iva A. (Troutman) Reed. He was married for 52 years to the former Shirley E. Ferree who survives.

He was a 1955 graduate of the former Hubley Township High School and attended Susquehanna University.

Joe installed carpet for area residents for more than 50 years. He had worked at the former Muskin Shoe Company, Millersburg, and had retired from the former Brubaker Tool Corporation, Millersburg. He was president of the Pillow Borough Council for more than 20 years.

He was a member of St. Peter’s “Hoffman’s” United Church of Christ, Lykens Township, and a member of the Pillow Fire Company. Joe called bingo at the Gratz Auction, the Crossroads Auction, and the Lewisburg Auction for many years.

Joe enjoyed camping, fishing, and auto racing, and was a season ticket holder at Selinsgrove Speedway for 50 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Jo and Randy Witmer, of Millersburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Anthony J. and Christine Reed, of Halifax; four granddaughters, Ashley Shoop, of Land O Lakes, Fla., Shelby Witmer and Samantha Witmer, both of Millersburg, and Rylee Reed, of Halifax; one grandson, Reece Witmer, of Millersburg; two brothers, James “Jack” Reed Sr., of Gratz, and Marlin “Budd” Reed Jr., of Myerstown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Timothy W. Reed; one grandson, Spencer Witmer; one brother, William Reed; and two sisters, Betty Headdings and Polly Bonawitz.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s “Hoffman’s”  United Church of Christ, 1289 S. Crossroads Road, Lykens, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Wagner officiating.

Burial will be made in Union Cemetery, Pillow.
