Louis S. “Cocoa” Papp, 90, Kulpmont

KULPMONT — Louis S. “Cocoa” Papp, 90, of Kulpmont, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where he had been a patient for five years.

He was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Kulpmont, a son of the late John and Gizella (Kocis) Papp. On June 1, 1946, he married the former Cecelia C. Bernas, who survives.

Louis was a 1942 graduate of Kulpmont High School and served with the Army in India, Burma and China during World War II.

Earlier in his life, he was employed by the Neighborhood Bakery in Kulpmont. He formerly owned and operated the East End Beverage Co., Shamokin, and was a co-owner of the Crown Bowling Lanes, Shamokin.

He was a member of St. Casimir Church, Kulpmont, and a member of the East End Fire Company, Coal Township, and the American Legion.

Louis enjoyed bowling and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Corinne Klose and her boyfriend, Robert DeHarder, of Lewisburg, Thomas Papp and wife Debra, of Kulpmont, and Robert Papp and his girlfriend, Sunday Zarko, of Kulpmont; six grandchildren, Jennifer Gottshall and husband Matthew, Jessica Mullany and husband Curt, Nicole Papp, Christopher Papp, Jordan Papp and Joshua Papp; and three great-grandchildren, Kaden, Benjamin and Alison.

He was preceded in death by numerous brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Louis’ memory may be made to the Activities Fund at Nottingham Village or to the St. Pauline Center in Kulpmont.

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
