SELINSGROVE — Betty V. Herman, 85, of The Manor at Penn Village, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Village. She had been a former resident of the Beavertown area.
She was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Freeburg, a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (Ferry) Moyer. She was married to Oscar Swartz, who preceded her in death in 1945. In 1947, she married Charles L. Herman, who preceded her in death in 1987.
Betty attended Freeburg schools and had been employed for more than 30 years at Pennsylvania House, Lewisburg.
She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the New Berlin American Legion Post Ladies of the Legion.
Betty enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, going camping and attending concerts.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley D. and Barry Hackenberg, of Middleburg; two sons and three daughters-in-law, Nelson R. and Bonnie Swartz, of Watsontown, Charles L. “Bo” and Elaine Herman, of Middleburg, and Irene Herman, of Middleburg; nine grandchildren, Roger and Kevin Swartz, Tammy Drick, Lisa Schrader, Jennifer Womer, Vincent Herman, Kimberly Tressler, Christopher Herman, and Julie Gentry; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Herman, of Mifflinburg; three half sisters, Ruth “Dolly” Domenico, of Florida, Joyce Bachman, of Fayetteville, and Sandra Keiser, of Milroy; and three half brothers, Henry “Sonny” Moyer, of Kreamer, Gerald “Butch” Moyer, of McClure, and Gary Moyer, of Mifflin.
She was preceded in death by one son, James V. Herman; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and three brothers, George, Archie and David Moyer.
Friends and family will be received from 1 to 2 p.m.
Tuesday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with Pastor Timothy Gingrich officiating.
Burial will be in St. Peter’s Independent Bible Church Cemetery, Beavertown.
