In 1964, she founded the Mengel’s Nursing Home, which later became the Zendt Home and is now the Richfield Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center. She was its nursing home administrator from 1964 to 1979. Pauline retired in 1987 from the Juniata County Courthouse as its chief clerk.

Pauline was an accomplished cook and baker. She was involved in the production and design of several quilts for Richfield Dutch Days.

Pauline was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Phyllis Minium, of Richfield; several generations of nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, friend and neighbor, Lavonda Bauman.

In addition to her husband, Pauline was preceded by her son, Robert E. Mengle, on Dec. 4, 2006; one brother, Ezra Minium Jr., on April 6, 2006; two sisters, Ethel Hood and her husband, Norman, and Almera Varner; one nephew, Gene Varner; and two nieces, Linda Swartz and Sue Winey.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a memorial service by the Order of Eastern Star, Lafayette Chapter 222 at 8:45, in the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills. The casket will then be closed.
