Floyd R. Baker, 85, New Columbia

NEW COLUMBIA — Floyd R. Baker, 85, formerly of Williamsport, and currently of Country Comfort Alternative Living, New Columbia, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born May 7, 1928, in rural Lewisburg, a son of the late Melvin G. Sr. and Mahala (Minium) Baker. He was married to the former Evelyn Minium until her death in 1995.

Floyd was a 1946 graduate of the Milton High School and had served in the Army during World War II.  He had been employed by AVCO Lycoming, Williamsport.

He was a member of the United in Christ Lutheran Church, Lewisburg and the American Legion.  

Floyd enjoyed bowling and being a baseball umpire from Little League up to the West Branch league. He volunteered at the Little League World Series in Williamsport for many years. He liked to hunt in earlier years and was a member of the NRA.

He is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Verdilla and Walter Heddings, of West Milton, and Pauline Hauck, of New Columbia; and one brother and sister-in-law, Melvin G. Jr. and Mary Baker, of West Milton.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Beatrice Rice, Patricia Kerstetter, and Cornelia Price; and two brothers, Kenneth A. Baker Sr. and Harold Baker.

Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the funeral at 11 at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, with the Rev. Leah D. Schade and the Rev. David W. McCarty officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in the Church Hill Cemetery, Lewisburg.

The family will provide flowers and ask for memorial contributions in Floyd’s memory to be made to the United in Christ Lutheran Church, 1875 Churches Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
