MILLVILLE — Gladys Viola (Gardner) Cross Laubach, 87, formerly of the village of Millville, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Harmon House Care Center in Mount Pleasant, where she had resided since 2009.
She was born to the late Harvey and Annie (Hilner) Gardner, Oct. 12, 1925, in Derry Township, Montour County. She was married to George Grant Cross until his death on Oct. 20, 1976. She later was married to Arthur B. Laubach until his death on Aug. 22, 2001.
A 1943 graduate of Turbotville High School, Gladys worked as the bookkeeper for Gardner’s Trucking Company and served as clerk and manager of the General Store in Strawberry Ridge; she later worked at the Geisinger Medical Center until her retirement.
She also enjoyed working part-time at the Bloomsburg Fair in church booths over the years. For many years, Gladys was an active member of the California Grange in Watsontown. She also volunteered and worked with the Turbotville Community Center.
She was a member of the White Hall Baptist Church and formerly had taught Sunday school at the Strawberry Ridge Church.
Surviving are four sons, Robert and Shelly Cross, of Hampton, N.H.; Richard and Kathleen Payette Cross, of Mount Pleasant; Kenneth and Holly Cross, of Beaver Springs; and Jeffrey and Krista Cross, of Breckenridge, Col.; 15 grandchildren; three stepchildren; one sister, Mildred DeWald, of Millville; and one brother, Ray Gardner, of Strawberry Ridge.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Gardner who died Aug. 29, 2006, and one sister, Frances Wynn who died March 9, 2011.
She will be buried next to George Cross in the White Hall Cemetery. The Reverend Robert Ayars, pastor of the White Hall Baptist Church will be officiating a service at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20th, at the cemetery in White Hall.
