MILTON — Ephraim J. Gifford, 86, of State Route 405, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born May 22, 1927, in Montgomery, a son of the late Ephraim W. Gifford and Beulah E. Nuss. On Feb. 5, 1960, he married the former Doris E. Shoemaker and celebrated 53 years of marriage together.
He was an Army veteran serving in Italy during World War II and was an expert rifleman.
Ephraim retired from Chef Boyardee in 1992 after 27 years of service.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Watsontown and was a former member of the Musicians Union, Williamsport.
Ephraim enjoyed music and was regarded as the best accordion player in the area. He played with the Bob & Dean McNett band for 20 years and helped run the Radio Corral in Montgomery, bringing in and playing with numerous professional musicians from Nashville. Later in life he played with the George Wolfe Band.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jeffrey W. Gifford, of Milton; one daughter, Renee E. Schweikart; one granddaughter, Amber E. Reed; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary T. and Bethany L. Reed, all of Mifflinburg.
He was preceded in death by one half brother, Elmer L. Buss.
Family and friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Paula M. Gustafson of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, officiating.
Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy.
