Grace W. Getkin, 86, Shamokin Dam

— SHAMOKIN DAM — Grace W. Getkin, 86, of 8 Smokehouse Lane, formerly of Sunbury, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

She was born May 21, 1927, in Middleburg, a daughter of the late Lester A. and Helen (Swartzlander) Weller. On June 29, 1946, she married Jeremiah F. “Jerry” Getkin, who preceded her in death on April 2, 2008. They celebrated almost 62 years of marriage.

Grace was a 1945 graduate of Middleburg High School.

She had been employed by Nite Kraft, Westinghouse and Wilson Manufacturing, all of Sunbury, and Boscov’s in Hummels Wharf.

She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, formerly St. John’s, Sunbury.

Grace was a master of many handicrafts. Most of her creations were gifts of love for friends and family members. Mom will always be remembered for the delicious meals and fabulous pies she prepared for her family. Her joy and purpose in life were her husband and family. Her happiest moments were those shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry F. and Margaret (Ryan) Getkin, of Sunbury; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Ned I. Weaver, of Millmont, and Joyce and Chester J. Telatovich, of Shamokin Dam; two grandsons, Matthew and his wife, Jennifer Weaver, of Laurelton, and Jeremy and his wife, Gretchen, of Montandon; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Telatovich, of Belle Vernon, Rachel Getkin, of Sunbury, and Anna and her husband, Mark Thompson, of Williamsport; six great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Samantha, William, Anthony, Aaron and Natalie; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard E. and Betty Weller, of Middleburg, and Robert A. and Maureen Weller, of Seneca Falls, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeremiah J. “J.J.” Getkin, in 2008; one sister, Ida Mae, in infancy; and one brother, Guy E. Weller, in August 2012.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s United Methodist Church, North Second and Arch streets, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11.

Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Grace’s memory may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, North Second and Arch streets, Sunbury, PA 17801.
