SUNBURY — Beatrice M. Poltonavage, 78, of Sunbury, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at her home.
She was born in New Berlin on May 27, 1934, a daughter of the late Milo and Harriet (Solomon) Wetzel. She married Joseph S. Poltonavage on Aug. 8, 1957.
Beatrice formerly was employed as a secretary for the Shikellamy School District. Before that, she had been employed at Philco Co. and Geisinger Medical Center. She recently was employed at Brumbach’s Auction.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Sunbury.
Bea enjoyed gardening, decorating and spending time with her granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kim Poltonavage, of Shamokin; one daughter, Cathy Dipiazza, of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; four granddaughters, Olivia and Chloe Poltonavage, of Shamokin, Alicia Paul, of Lebanon, Tenn., and Jamie DiPiazza, of Hermitage, Tenn.; one brother, Ronald Wetzel, of Sunbury; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Mary Poltonavage, of Palmyra, Luther Betsker, of Sunbury, and Sandra Wetzel, of Northumberland; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Wendell and Ray; four sisters, Phyllis Keister, Betty Shipman, Lucille Heintzelman and June Betsker; and son-in-law, John Dipiazza.
Friends were received Friday morning at First Reformed United Church of Christ, 160 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral.
Burial was in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
