WINFIELD — Robert L. Hoover, 77, of Winfield, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born Jan. 31, 1936, in Sunbury, the son of the late Robert H. Hoover and Leatha A. Reed, who survives in Northumberland. On March 22, 1962, he married the former Jacqueline L. Powell, who preceded him in death Oct. 1, 2003.
He graduated from Sunbury High School in 1953, then went on to serve his country for 20 years in the Navy, serving in Vietnam and then retiring as Chief Petty officer. After the military he worked as an x-ray technician for Family Practice in Mount Pleasant Mills, at the Shamokin Hospital, and Lewistown Hospital. He also worked as part of the Three Mile Island clean-up crew.
Robert enjoyed woodworking, public sales and collecting antique tools.
Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Ann and her husband Michael Rogers, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Robin L. and her husband Donald Kurtz, of Sunbury; and two grandchildren, Brittany and Nathon.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church United Church of Christ, Second and Chestnut streets, Sunbury with the Rev. Michael Beynon officiating.
Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park.
A memorial luncheon for family and friends will follow the interment in the church social hall.
Flowers will be accepted, but contributions can be made to Robert’s church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
