Harold L. Harris, 92, Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG — Harold L. Harris, 92, of 3766 Red Maple Lane, died at 11:23 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a brief illness.

He was born July 20, 1920, in Hickory Corners, Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, a son of the late George W. and Grace E. (Lehman) Harris. He had lived in Scott Township, Columbia County since 1970 and previously lived in Northumberland for 13 years.

Harold was a 1936 graduate of the former Lower Mahanoy Township High School. He served with the Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 attaining the rank of second lieutenant. Following his military service, he attended and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor of science degree in architectural engineering.

He was employed by PPL Electric Utilities for 32 years as a registered professional engineer, retiring in 1983.

A longtime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg, he was a life member of American Legion Post 504, Dalmatia, Moose Lodge 307, Chickies Rock, and Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436. For many years, he attended Penn State University home football games.

Surviving are his wife, the former Rita M. Wilkinson, with whom he celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 21, 2012; one son and daughter-in-law, G. Michael and Mollie Harris, of Bloomsburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Rose Ann and George Leavesley, of Littleton, Colo.; two grandchildren, Brian Leavesley and Megan Harris; and three siblings and their spouses, Gene I. and Shirley Harris, of Dalmatia; Ruby C. Moyer, of Northumberland, and Wendell and Linda Harris, of Northumberland.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Clark D. Harris.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, followed by the funeral at 3 with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders, officiating.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Stone Valley Cemetery, Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County.

The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 123 N. Market St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
