Marion I. (Lawrence) Bieber, 87,

TROY, Mich. — Marion Irene (Lawrence) Bieber, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, April 28, 2013, surrounded by family in Troy.

She was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Sunbury, Pa., the daughter of Charles K. and Margaret (Hardman) Lawrence. Marion was lovingly raised by her English maternal grandparents, Robert and Maud (Wilmot) Hardman.

Marion was a 1943 graduate of Sunbury High School and a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury, both of which served to provide her with many happy memories. She often shared stories about growing up in the small town of Sunbury before World War II with her girlfriends, Mary Jane Kocher Hullihen, Emma Jane Lepley Korten and Sally Ann Sarba Neff.

Her marriage to Walter M. Bieber in 1945 led her to Altoona, Pa., where they had two sons, Frederick and Lindley, and a daughter, Phyllis. After their marriage ended, Marion worked as a secretary at Altoona High School. In 1974, she moved to Washington, D.C., and became the executive assistant to the director of bank liquidations for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. She was thrilled to be working across the street from the White House in an office that had frequent interaction with Congress.

Upon Marion’s retirement from the FDIC in 1992, she moved to Stuart, Fla., where she enjoyed living near her sons. She lived in Vero Beach, Fla., from 2003 until 2011. As her health declined, she relocated to Birmingham, Mich., to be with her daughter.

Her youthful appearance, her passion for flowers and nature, the utter delight she took in animals, and her energy and zest for sharing good times with her family remained with her to her final days. Marion will be remembered by all who came to know her for her strength, determination, sweet disposition and gentle soul.

She is survived by her son, Lindley J. Bieber and his wife, Patricia, of Vero Beach; her daughter, Phyllis Bieber Williams and son-in-law, James D. Williams III, Esq., of Troy, Mich.; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two granddogs; and two grandcats.

Marion is predeceased by her son, Frederick.

A private service was held Wednesday, April 30, in Troy.

Donations to honor Marion’s life may be made to an animal shelter or animal rescue organization.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors, 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Mich. Condolences can be made at www.lynchfuneraldirectors.com.
