SELINSGROVE — Ruth S. Steffen, 82, of Pavilion Lane, formerly a long time resident of Middleburg, passed away early Friday evening, May 10, 2013, at her home.
She was born April 26, 1931, in rural Middleburg, a daughter of the late Charles and Bertha (Beachel) Steininger. On March 27, 1947, she married Stanley E. Steffen who preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2008.
Ruth was a member of the class of 1949 in Middleburg High School.
She had been employed at the Middleburg Auction Barn, Luck Insurance Agency, Middleburg, and retired after more than 25 years of serving as the Middleburg Borough secretary.
She was a member of Zions Church of Kratzerville. She had served as the church organist and choir director for many years at the Salem Brethren Church, Middleburg. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Middleburg Lodge
Ruth enjoyed music, and loved flowers and gardening as well as dining out. A fond memory of the family is Ruth going to the pool in the summer with the children. Ruth devoted her life to her family.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy J. and Mike S. Gill, of Kreamer; one son and two daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Loretta L. Steffen, of Harrison, Ohio, and Rita Filohoski and husband, Mark, of Port Trevorton; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Tonya and Joe Bollman, Brian and Jennie Steffen, Joshua and Jeena Steffen, Anna Steffen and fiance, Anthony Ordonez, Allison and Matthew Lowhead, Andrew Gill and Abby Gill; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Michael, Sarah, Emma, and Delaney; one brother, Charles Steininger, of Kratzerville; and three sisters, Betty Walters, of Belleville, Helen Klingler, of Middleburg, and Joanne Blackford, of Charleston, S.C.
She was preceded in death by one son, Steven C. Steffen on March 10, 2005; and three brothers, Richard, John and Gene Steininger.
Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, where the funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Randall Bennett Jr. officiating
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Selinsgrove.
