TROXELVILLE — Pearl D. Bender, 80, of Troxelville, surrounded by her loving family, was lifted up to her Heavenly Father at 4:14 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
She was born Nov. 28, 1933, in Troxelville, a daughter of the late Clarence and Verna “Maude” (Thomas) Moyer. On June 8, 1958, she married Earl Bender, who survives.
Pearl attended Troxelville Primary School, a two-room school house, where she met her best friend, Ida Reich. Pearl enjoyed playing cards and going to bingo with Ida. They remained friends throughout their lives.
Pearl was a hard worker, having worked for 35 years at the Beavertown Weaving Mill, retiring in June 1998.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. She would always get a big smile on her face at the sight of her grandchildren and loved having them around. Pearl had a very kind and giving heart and would go without just so someone else could have something. Pearl had a heart of gold. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends.
She also was a jokester and loved scaring the nurses and aides at the nursing home. One never knew what they would find in her bed. Anything from a rubber snake to a rubber spider would be under her blankets.
Surviving are six children and their spouses, Gary and Brenda Moyer, of Guadalupe, Calif., Marcella and Steve Kitting, of Lewistown, Sharon Goldschmidt, of Mifflinburg, Kenny and Robin Bender, of Sante Maria, Calif., Keith and Teresa Bender, of Beaver Springs, and William “Bill” Bender, of Beaver Springs; grandchildren, Janelle Klase, Sarah Kitting, Tabatha Shooter, Justin Bender, Shannon Clift, Nicole Gutierrez-Boydstun, Randi Bender, Kelly, Todd and Bryan Goldschmidt, Ethan and Wyatt Bender, Mary Richardson, and Deanna Reed; great-grandchildren, Keegan Klase, Kassidy Goldschmidt, Julio and Gabe Melendez, Adrian Rojas, Adalina Gutierrez, Wendell, Hunter, Madison and Reagan Clift, Bree and Adam Young, Tish and Krista Richardson, Ricky Linderman and Steffy and Scotty Reed; great-great-grandchildren, Braden Martinez, Layla Richardson and Tyler and Alexis Linderman; brothers, Clarence Moyer Jr. and wife Patty, of Holly, N.Y., and Andrew Moyer and wife Faye, of Kendall, N.Y.; and sisters, Pauline Reich and Faye DeClerk, both of New York. Coming from a very large family, Pearl leaves behind more than 1,000 living descendants.
She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Bender; and siblings, Leroy Moyer, George Moyer, Frank Moyer, Burnell Moyer, Earnest Moyer, Ruth Moyer Sparks, Erma Moyer Ettinger and Florence Moyer Folk. Pearl will be sadly missed by her family and friends and will be fondly remembered.
Friends and family will be received from 10 to noon Saturday at the Pheasant Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, followed by the funeral at noon with the Rev. Kathy Mercado officiating.
Internment will be in Troxelville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to SUN Home Hospice, P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857.
