Laura Reed Knouse, 84, Chambersburg

— CHAMBERSBURG — Laura Reed (Swank) Knouse, 84, of Chambersburg, transitioned from this world peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2014.

She is now reunited with her husband, Earl Robert Knouse, whom she has missed every day since December 1983, and with her infant daughter Marla, and sisters, Jean Faust, Doris Jones, and Virginia Knouse.

Laura is remembered for being a loving wife and devoted mother. Earl and Laura built, with the help of their brothers, their first home in Middletown. When Earl asked if she wanted a fancier engagement ring, she replied she’d rather have indoor plumbing.

For the past 31 years she has been a member of the Chambersburg First United Methodist Church, and her church family visited her often at Menno Haven Retirement Village.

She leaves behind many who will miss her; brothers, Donald Swank and wife, Nelina, and Glenn Swank; three daughters, Lucy and husband, Charles Anderson, Susie, and husband, Bob Kunkle, and Nora and husband, Dean Kirstein; one son, Chuck, and wife, Chris Knouse; six grandchildren, Tim, Lori, Kathrine, Sara, Elizabeth, and Benjamin; two stepgrandsons, Gregg and Jim; two stepgranddaughters, Becky and Laurie; and eight great-grandchildren, David, Alaina, Andria, Matthew, Layne, Tristan, Ethan and Alex.

Relatives and friends are invited to Laura’s life celebration service at 1 p.m. Friday at Coble-Reber Funeral Home, 208 N. Union St., Middletown, with the Rev. Catherine Boileau officiating. The family will received friends from 1 to 1:30 prior to the service.

Interment in Middletown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Laura’s memory may be sent to Susie Kunkle, 243 W. Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222, for the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission project in Uruguay, which Susie will personally deliver to the children in November.

God bless you and we miss you, Mom.
