— DANVILLE — Carl A. Schmidt, 89, of Danville, entered into eternal life on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Emmanuel Nursing Center, Danville.

He was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Danville, a son of the late Frank and Blanche Schmidt.

Carl was a member of the Danville High School class of 1942. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was a veteran of World War II.

Farming was always a big part of Carl’s life and later worked at Merck as a chemical operator. Carl was self employed for most of his life. He was the former owner of Modern Milling Company, had milk trucks and routes as well as school bus routes. He and his wife owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Hummels Wharf for 10 years.

Carl served on the Montour County Soil Conservations Committee and as a Monroe County Supervisor in Snyder County.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Baslick; a daughter, Sr. Sandra Schmidt, S.B.S. of Bensalem; a son, Galen Schmidt and his wife, Crystal of Hummels Wharf; a daughter, Carla Solomon and her husband, Earl, of Newport; a daughter, Lisa Schmidt, of New Cumberland; and a son, Frank Schmidt and his wife, Teri, of Danville; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Shultz and Hilda Baylor, both of Danville.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Gerald; a sister, Catherine Updegrove; and one granddaughter, Amber Solomon.

A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Brady Funeral Home, 320 Church St., Danville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Friday in St. Joseph Church, 18 E. Center St., Danville, with the Rev. Dominic Azgobor, O.P. as celebrant.

The burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

The family will provide flowers, however, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, 1663 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, PA 19020 in Carl’s memory.
