Katherine A. “Kay” Klimpel, 96, Lewisburg

— LEWISBURG — Katherine A. “Kay” (Kaufmann) Klimpel, 96, of 945 Fairground Road, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Buffalo Valley Personal Care, Lewisburg.

She was born April 6, 1917, in Middle Village, Queens, N.Y., a daughter of the late Frederick and Josephine (Eisele) Limbach.

Kay was a graduate of Hempstead High School, Long Island, N.Y.

She was employed as a secretary to the superintendent of West Hempstead High School, Long Island.

Kay was an associate member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, for the past 15 years and for more than 80 years was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Hempstead, N.Y. She also was a member of Order of Eastern Star, New York.

The most important things in Kay’s life were her faith and her family. She loved caring for and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Kay also enjoyed bowling and playing cards.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mary Kaufmann, of Fort Myers, Fla., Kenneth and Kathy Kaufmann, of Lewisburg, and Chris and Cindy Kaufmann, of Londonderry, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Amy Coleman, Matthew Kaufmann, Megan Kaufmann, Emily Miller, Adam Kaufmann, James Templeton, Gretchen Templeton, P. Sean Weiss and P. Scott Weiss; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first husband of 17 years, Erwin Herman “Pat” Kaufmann; an infant son, Carl William Kaufmann, who died in 1945; her second husband of 21 years, William Klimpel; two sisters, Josephine Putland and Caroline Schroeher; and one brother, Christian Limbach.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 with her pastor, the Rev. William S. Henderson, officiating.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, N.Y.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries, 889 Fairground Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

The family is being assisted by the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg.
