— PORT TREVORTON — Evelyn S. Manley, 94, of Port Trevorton, peacefully entered into eternal rest at home in her daughter’s arms on Thursday, May 2, 2013.

Evelyn was born April 9, 1919, in Fairmont, W.Va., a daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth and Lewis Snoderly. She was married to Thomas Manley, who preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2011.

She was a graduate of Fairmont High School in West Virginia, Fairmont State University and Bloomsburg University.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove.

For 25 years, Evelyn taught for the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit and the Selinsgrove Area School District. In 1975, she was awarded Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year award for her dedication and excellence in teaching mentally disabled children. She had many fond memories of past students and fellow teachers.

Evelyn greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild and family.

She was an avid gardener.

Her special interest was collecting toothpick holders, and she had more than 300. The Heisey pattern was her favorite, which resulted in her having one of every pattern made. She was active in the National Toothpick Holders Collectors Society. When the convention was held in the Northeast, she hosted the meeting of the society.

Evelyn is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Earl Ferry, of Port Trevorton; one son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Susan Manley, of Chesapeake, Va.; four grandchildren, Gary Snyder, Kindell Snyder, Lori Perry and Nicole Davies; three great-grandchildren, Lauryn Snyder, Brandon Snyder and Madison Perry; and one great-great-grandchild, Boston Snyder.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care that was provided for her by Christine Kantz, Brandi Kantz, Elsie Brubaker, Ruth Ann Stauffer, Katelyn Showers and Lora Kratzer. Their daily care helped Evelyn to remain in her home until her death. The services of SUN Home Hospice greatly assisted her in the time near her death. Evelyn appreciated and enjoyed the many cards and visits from church members.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Timothy W. Bingman officiating.

A private burial will take place in Orchard Hills Cemetery and Memorial Park, Shamokin Dam.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Evelyn’s memory to SUN Home Hospice, 61 Duke St., P.O. Box 232, Northumberland, PA 17857.
