Richard R. “Bimbo” Wagner, 74, Middleburg

— MIDDLEBURG — Richard R. “Bimbo” Wagner, 74, of Smalsh Barrick Road, passed away on Sunday evening, April 6, 2014, at Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, where he was taken after being stricken ill while on vacation.

He was born Sept. 9, 1939, in Middlecreek Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Roy E. and Marie R. (Dunkelberger) Wagner. On Oct. 7, 1961, he married the former Maxine L. Homiak, who survives.

Richard attended Middleburg High School and served in the Army from 1963 to 1965.

He had been employed at Asplundh Tree Service, Alvin Stephens Milling, Kratzerville, Wood-Mode, Kreamer, and retired in 2005 after many years as a self-employed truck driver.

Richard was Lutheran. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 25, Selinsgrove, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1173, Selinsgrove.

Richard had a passion for classic cars and enjoyed collecting them. His most prized car was his 1957 Plymouth Fury. He attended NASCAR races at almost all of the tracks across the country. He participated at many classic car shows, where he won numerous awards. Richard traveled extensively and particularly enjoyed Las Vegas. He also enjoyed hunting and square dancing locally.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Gladys Whitesel, of New Columbia, and Jean and Carl Long, of Selinsgrove; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Robert Wagner, of Selinsgrove, and Ray and Martha Wagner, of Middleburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and Amelia and Alexis, his Labradors, who were like his kids.

Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral at 11, at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, with the Rev. Ricky Phillips officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Erdley’s Church Cemetery, Middleburg.

Contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214.
