Julia A. Bordell, 94, Shamokin

— SHAMOKIN — Julia A. Bordell, 94, formerly of 17 N. Rock St., passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township. She had been a resident of Mountain View since January 2008.

Born July 12, 1919, in Atlas, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Domenica “Minnie” (Bridi) Augustine. She lived the early part of her life in Atlas before moving to Shamokin.

For a time, she was employed at the American Cigar Co. in Mount Carmel. She also was a homemaker and mother, which she truly enjoyed and was proud of.

On May 28, 1948, in St. Paul’s Chapel in Atlas, she married Joseph J. Bordell, who preceded her in death on April 2, 2010.

Julia was a member of Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, former St. Edward’s Church chapter, where she served as secretary.

She enjoyed taking care of her home, cooking and playing pinochle and 500 Rummy. Her happiest times were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph C. and Ruth Bordell, of Coal Township; one daughter and son-in-law, Lucille A. and William Reuter, of Lexington Park, Md.; three grandchildren, Justin J. Bordell, Jill M. Stone and her husband Robert and Ryan C. Reuter; two great-granddaughters, Piper Stone and Viviana Bordell; one great-grandson, expected in August; nieces; and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Colross and Edith Augustine, and four brothers, Tullio, Guido, Victor and Louis Augustine.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday in Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin.

Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

The Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home, 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin, PA 17872.
