Marlene J. Matter, 76, Herndon

HERNDON — Marlene J. Matter, 76, of Herndon, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2013, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born July 4, 1936, in Hebe, a daughter of the late Elva (Weist) and Warren Leitzel. She was married for 58 years to Lamar Matter, who survives.

Marlene was employed as a secretary for Meckley’s Farm Supply, Mandata.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Urban, the Rebecca Idella Lodge, Dornsife, and the women’s group at St. Paul’s.

Marlene’s joy in life was her family, her grandchildren and baking for her family and others.

In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Mitch Leiby, of Catawissa, Cindy  and Clint Geist, of Leck Kill, and Shelly and JD Straub, of Dalmatia; brother-in-law, Donald Wetzel; sister-in-law, Betty Leitzel; one grandson, Nathan Leiby, of Catawissa; and one granddaughter, Allyson Leiby, of Catawissa.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Bohner, Gladys Maurer and Roxie Wetzel, and three brothers, Ray Leitzel, Leon Leitzel and Glenn Leitzel.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Urban, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Tom Degnitz officiating.

Interment will take place in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Urban.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marlene’s memory may be made to Geisinger Heart Institute or to St. Paul’s UCC Building Fund.
