— DANVILLE — Charles A. Laubach Jr., M.D., 95, of 217 Abbey Road, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born Feb. 19, 1919, in Berwick, the son of the late Charles A. Sr. and Martha (Diehl) Laubach.

He graduated from Berwick High School in 1937 and from Pennsylvania State University in 1940 with a bachelor of arts degree. Dr. Laubach graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1943. He served his country as a captain in the Army.

His medical career began with his internship at Abington Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia and his residency at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, in general internal medicine and pathology. He also served a residency in pulmonary disease and physiology in Sante Fe, N.M. Dr. Laubach was a fellow in cardiovascular disease at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

His monumental career at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville began in 1950. He was well noted as the founder of the cardiology department, the development of the cardiac cath lab and the cardiac rehab program. Dr. Laubach also was a consultant in cardiology in many of the surrounding areas in Pennsylvania. Following his clinical practice, he went to the Geisinger Health Plan for nine years as assistant medical director.

Dr. Laubach’s memberships in professional societies were numerous in cardiology and gerontology, including the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society and president of the Montour County Medical Society.

Dr. Laubach’s distinguished honors over the years were numerous, the most recent being induction into the Berwick High School Hall of Fame, the Geisinger Wall of Fame and the American Red Cross Robert N. Pursel Community Service Award. In addition, he received the American College of Cardiology’s Pennsylvania Chapter Founder’s Award and the American College of Physicians’ Fellow Laureate Award. He was the author of 112 professional publications, six scientific exhibits and numerous research projects.

Dr. Laubach was a devout member of St. Paul’s Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Danville, where he served faithfully on the administration board and pastoral relations committee. He especially enjoyed teaching Sunday school and singing in the church choir. His memberships were multiple in the community, including serving on the Danville school board from 1958 to 1970, the Boy Scouts, Frosty Valley Country Club, Susquehanna Valley Chorale Association, Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble Association, Montour County Historical Society, Columbia-Montour Home Health Services, where he was the chairman of the medical advisory committee, the Columbia-Montour Torch Club and the American Red Cross Board of Directors.

He continued his involvement with his alma mater and served as a board member in the Penn State College of Liberal Arts and was an enthusiastic and avid PSU football fan.

An extensive part of his life included music. He loved to sing and enjoyed playing the coronet, piano and organ. No matter what walk of life you were in, Dr. Laubach always displayed respect and gratefulness to anyone he came in contact with through his genuine concern and kindness. He was a gentleman who will always be remembered for his warm, friendly smile, and he will be greatly missed by many.

His greatest devotion was to his family who he adored. He was married to his wife of 58 years, Janet Brown Laubach, on Dec. 26, 1943. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Beverly J. Seidel Laubach, whom he married Sept. 13, 2003.
