Edna P. Bromfield Schott, 91, Lewisburg

— LEWISBURG — Edna P. Bromfield Schott, 91, of RiverWoods, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.  

She was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Thomas and Edna Price.  

Edna graduated from Plains High School in 1940 and from Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business in 1941. In 1944, she married Malcolm P. Bromfield. In 1949, she and her family moved to Blossburg where she was active in church activities and organized the first Girl Scout Troop in Blossburg.

In 1956, she and her family moved to Lewisburg. In Lewisburg, she was secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for many years. As a member of Beaver Memorial Methodist Church, she and her husband were active in church activities and served as Sunday school teachers.

Following her husband’s death in 1973, she attended Bloomsburg University, graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor of science in education in 1977, and later received a master’s of science in education in 1980. She taught fifth grade in the Lewisburg Area School District from 1977 until her retirement in 1986.

In 1981, she married Donald L. Schott. Together they were frequent bridge players and co-chaired the Lewisburg Bridgathon. Edna also served as president of the Union County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and was active in their state association. She was also active in numerous community activities. Donald Schott died in 2002, after which Edna moved to Ridgecrest Court, Lewisburg.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who thoroughly enjoyed the time she could spend with her extended family and friends.  

She is survived by her children, Wayne Bromfield and his wife, Kathy, of New Berlin, Ruth Ann Bromfield, of Lewisburg, and Walter Bromfield and his wife, Sally, of Tampa, Fla.;  her grandchildren, Kelly Bromfield Cha, James Bromfield and Devon Bromfield Davis; Ryan Boop, Ellyn Bromfield Boop Ross, and Garrett Boop; Corinne, Stuart and Martha Bromfield; 11 great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Elizabeth, Donald, Mary, Joseph, Nancy and James Schott, Barbara Schott Luther and Helen Schott Larson; and numerous stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers, one grandson, Adam Boop, and one stepson, William Schott.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service at 2 p.m. Saturday in Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, 43 S. Third St., Lewisburg. Friends will be received beginning at 1 p.m. Light refreshments will follow the service.  

Arrangements are under the direction of the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury.
