MILTON — Mahlon R. Coup Jr., 86, of West Maple Street, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born April 30, 1927, in New Columbia, the son of the late Mahlon R. Sr. and Mary (Keefer) Coup. He was married to the former Esther Shriner, who survives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara (Bennage) Coup.
Mahlon was a graduate of Milton High School. He served his country for 39 years in the Army during World War II, Korea and in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
He had been employed for 31 years by American Home Foods, Milton, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Milton, for more than 50 years and a member of American Legion Post 71, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1665 and the Saber Club, all in Milton. He was inducted into the Milton Bowling Hall of Fame in 1997.
Mahlon enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting and golfing.
He is survived by one daughter, Vicki Coup, of Muncy; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Coup, of Eagles Mere, and Timothy and April Coup, of White Deer; one sister, Margaret Weaver, of Florida; six grandchildren, Joshua Nielson, Rachael Coup, Colby Coup, Graydon Coup, Zachary Marks and Justine Marks; one stepdaughter, Virginia Elkin, of Illinois; three stepgrandchildren, Ian Elkin, Krista Hernandez and Craig Elkin; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great granddaughter.
Friends and relatives will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 102 Lower Market St., Milton, where the funeral will be held at 11 with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery, New Columbia.
