SELINSGROVE — Franklin T. Hackenberg, 73, formerly of North Market Street, passed away at 5:35 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born March 28, 1940, in Mount Pleasant Mills, a son of the late Roslyn and Daisy (Witmer) Hackenberg. He was married to the former Shirley M. Shaffer, who survives.
Franklin attended Meiserville area schools.
He previously was employed as a mechanic for Carl Gemberling Paving and Excavating, Eastern Industries in Winfield and Selinsgrove Ford.
Franklin was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1173, Selinsgrove, and the Dauntless Hook and Ladder Fire Company.
In his spare time, he enjoyed working on tractors and previously worked as a race car mechanic.
In addition to his wife of more than 55 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny T. and Darla Hackenberg, of Beavertown, and Matthew L. and Elizabeth Hackenberg, of Selinsgrove; two grandchildren, Travis and Nicholas; one brother, Charles Hackenberg, of Port Trevorton; one sister, Mary Moyer, of Freeburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son in infancy; one brother, George Hackenberg; two sisters-in-law, Edith Hackenberg and Martha Hackenberg; and one brother-in-law, June Moyer.
At the request of the family, services will be private.
Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
