C. William “Bill” Sherman, 88, Numidia

— NUMIDIA — C. William “Bill” Sherman, 88 years, 2 months and 25 days, of Numidia, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, in Elysburg.

He was born June 23, 1925, in Lewistown, the son of the late Frank and Gladys (Zimmerman) Sherman. He was married for 36 years to the former Vesta Spicher, who preceded him in death on June 10, 1997.

He was a member of Danville Mennonite Church. Bill was ordained a deacon for the Goodwill Congregation in 1970. He served as custodian at the Numidia Mennonite Bible School from 1993 until his death. Bill formerly was employed by Sperry Rand, New Holland, Bellville, Graybill Farm Equipment Repair, Lost Creek Equipment and Kauffman Farm Supply.

Bill is survived by one daughter, Ruth A. Sherman, who lived with him; one foster daughter, Sally A. Green, of Ephrata; and one sister and brother-in-law, Bessie and Dr. James G. Mitchell, of Maine.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Gretchen O’Neil.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Danville Mennonite Church, 420 Elysburg Road, Danville, where the funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Danville Mennonite Church.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Brady Funeral Home, Danville.
