SUNBURY — Dolores I. “Cookie Lady” Bitting, 75, of Sunbury, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at the Sunbury Community Hospital.
She was born March 12, 1938, a daughter of the late Howard and Mildred Freeze. On May 31, 1986, she married Park L. Bitting who survives.
She was employed by the Milton Shoe factory and Sun-Re Cheese, from where she retired.
Dolores was affectionately known as “The Cookie Lady”, by baking cookies or providing food for workers, children or just about anyone in her neighborhood. She loved to cook, play bingo and baby sit for her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children and their spouses, Delbert and Linda Gemberling, Michelle E. and Michael D. Hart, and Penny S. and Troy Stover, all of Sunbury; 13 grandchildren, Brandy, Hoy Alex IV, Nicole, Jessica, Robert, Chelsea, Amber, Cassandra, Cole, Chelsea, Mariah, Gavin, and Jaia; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers Willard, Tony, Mike and Buck; three sisters, Edith Beaver, Carmen Smith and Dixie Gemberling; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Hoy Riegel III in 2008; one brother, Charles; two sisters, Sylvia and Patricia; and two infant siblings.
Dolores requested to be cremated. Friends may visit with the family from 5:30 to 6:50 p.m. Friday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by a celebration of life/memorial service at 7, with Pastor Mark Gittens of H2 Church, officiating.
