Earl E. Boonie Jr., 83, Beavertown

— BEAVERTOWN — Earl E. Boonie Jr., 83, of Beavertale Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:22 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, shortly after admission.

He was born July 14, 1930, in Neff Mills, Huntingdon County, a son of the late Earl E. Sr. and Minnie V. (Weaver) Boonie. On Nov. 26, 1949, he married the former D. Elaine Gilbert, who preceded him in death on June 5, 2007.

Earl was a 1948 graduate of Beaver Vocational High School.

Early in his life, he was a certified milk tester. He had worked at Dairymens League, Beaver Springs, was a custodian at the Beaver-Adams Elementary School and later worked at Ben H. Walter Farm Implements, Beavertown, of where he later became co-owner and it was renamed B&R Farm Equipment. After his retirement, he resumed milk testing until age 70.

He was a member of Wayside Bible Church, Middleburg, and had served on the board, and he was a member of Snyder County Gideons. Earlier, he had been active with the Dairy Herd Improvement Association. He was a member of the American Holstein-Fresian Association and the West Snyder Young Farmers. He attended the Beaver Springs Senior Center and the Middlecreek Area Community Center.

Early in his life, he had played West Branch baseball. Earl enjoyed following Penn State football and wrestling and rarely missed watching “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune.” Earl started each day with Bible study.

He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Thomas Mull, of Middleburg, and their daughter, Angela Catanzariti and her husband, Leon, and their children, Tyler, Zachary and Gianna; Karen and Dennis Gaugler, of Selinsgrove, and their sons, Michael and his wife, Julie Gaugler, and their children, Evan, Brynn and Aiden, Duane and wife Shallen Gaugler, and their son, Braydon; Malinda and Dale Shirk, of Beaver Springs, and their children, Jamie and husband Jed Kidd, and their children, Ace and Axl, Jeremy and Breanne Shirk and their children, Tansy and Clover; Teresa and Vaughn Hackenburg, of Beaver Springs; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John W. “Bill” Boonie, of Beaver Springs, and his daughter, Angie Lynn Sheaffer and husband Douglas, and their children, Brandon and Breanna, Jessica Boonie and her children, Carl and Danielle Fultz; Edward E. and Jennifer Boonie, of Beaver Springs, and their children, Benjamin Boonie, and Melissa Erb, and her son, Easton, Ashley and husband Joe Haskins and their children, Noah, Leah and Isaiah, Caitlin Boonie and Sarah E. Boonie; sister-in-law, Loretta Pursel, of Bellville; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John A.C. and Claireann Gilbert, of Reedsville; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Deanna Boonie; one brother, Herman Boonie; and one sister, Edna Moyer.

Friends and family will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wayside Bible Church, Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 10:30 with the Rev. Rev. Timothy Reich and the Rev. David Dressler officiating.

Burial will be in Wayside Bible Church Cemetery.
