NEW COLUMBIA — Belva Loray Garrett, 86, of 2379 Treibley Road, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 1, 2013, at the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
A native of Betseylayne, Ky., she was born Jan. 19, 1927, a daughter of the late John and Dixie Lou (Loar) Caldwell. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Bill Sweeney and Alston Wayne Garrett.
Loray had been employed as the executive housekeeper at the Riverside Hospital in Michigan for 30 years and was a nurses aide at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village until she retired.
She was a member of the New Columbia Lions Club.
Loray loved her family especially the children and enjoyed decorating for any holiday.
She is survived by one daughter, Alice Gramly, of New Columbia; one granddaughter, Shannon Ousley, of Indianna; two great-grandchildren, Lexi and Levi Ousley; two sisters-in-law, Mary Caldwell and Vernie Caldwell, both of Michigan; and a cousin, David Caldwell and his wife Debbie, of Michigan.
She was the last of her immediate family and was preceded in death by five siblings, James Caldwell, Margaret Howell, Anna Sue Jones, Elsie Mae Layne and Charles Caldwell.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the funeral at 11, all at the First Baptist Church, Milton, with the Rev Jamie Dreese officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in Loray’s memory be made to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA 17701.
