LEWISBURG — Aurora Andrade, 90, of Lewisburg, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at her daughter’s home.
She was born May 5, 1922, in Ovar, Portugal, a daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Pires) Rodrigues. On Feb. 6, 1944, she married Joseph A. Andrade Jr., who preceded her in death May 6, 2009.
Early in life, Aurora worked as a seamstress in a garment factory in Newark, N.J. She loved sewing and continued her life as a homemaker, raising her family and making beautiful clothing for her daughter and grandchildren.
Aurora was a former member of Cranford First Presbyterian Church, New Jersey.
She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and along with her husband was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Aurora enjoyed taking care of children, including raising foster children for a time and babysitting the little ones in her neighborhood. She was friendly to her neighbors and would often welcome them into her home.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Paul Crowther, of Lewisburg; one brother, James Rodrigues, of Newark; one sister, Aurelia Caporaso, of South Carolina; two grandchildren, Ryan Crowther and his companion, Yonghee Chin, of New York City, and Caitlin Crowther and her fiance, Matthew Wagner, of Washington, D.C.; one stepgranddaughter, Kelly Waldrop, of Denver, Colo.; and four stepgreat-grandsons, Matthew, Nathan, Jacob and Greyson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one sister, Aurea Martins.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Evangelical Hospice, 1 Hospital Drive, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
