SELINSGROVE — Bernard A. Gates, 95, of Selinsgrove, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
He was born May 22, 1917, in Lebanon, a son of the late Bernard and Bertha (Andrews) Gates. He was married to the former Myrle Groh who preceded him in death in 2007.
Bernard was a 1935 graduate of Lebanon High School.
He was formerly employed as the senior manufacturing engineer at AMP Inc., Selinsgrove until his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Shamokin Dam, a member of Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge 194, Selinsgrove, the Harrisburg Consistory, the Sunbury Elks Lodge, the Susquehanna Valley Country Club, TPA, and the Traders Investment Club, Selinsgrove.
Bernard was an avid golfer.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne M. and James Hornberger, of Watsontown; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Harry A. Gates, of Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by one son, William; two brothers, Carlton and Kenneth; and one sister, Katherine Anderson.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 309 Water St., Northumberland.
