Edith R. Harbeson, 93, Pompton Plains, N.J.

POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. — Edith R. Harbeson, 93, of Pompton Plains, formerly of Milton, Pa., passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Pequannock Township, Morris County, N.J.

She was born Nov. 8, 1919, in Milton, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles Nelson and Georgena Augusta (Kelly) Reeder.  She was married to Roland F. Harbeson for 38 years until his death in 1991.

Edith was a 1937 graduate of the Milton High School and had worked for Hertz’s Women’s Shop, Singer Sewing Center, the Coup Agency and ACF, all in Milton.

She was a member of the Milton Historical Society and the Bethany United Methodist Church, Milton.  

Edith was an avid antique collector and enjoyed old houses and covered bridges. She was also a history and geography buff, especially local history.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Raymond Ernst, of Westwood, N.J.; three grandchildren and their families, Eric and Arlene Ernst their children, Amanda and Cassandra, Kristen and Walter O’Neil and their children, Raymond and Kaitlyn, and Jason and Elizabeth Ernst and their children, Michaela, Alicia and Simone; and one sister, Virginia Haas, of Elizabethtown.

Friends and relatives will be received from 11:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, followed by the funeral at noon.

The family will provide flowers and ask for memorial contributions in Edith’s memory be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
