Dale L. Bender, 80, Watsontown

— WATSONTOWN — Dale LeRoy Bender, 80, of Center Street, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, in the emergency room at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Milton, a son of the late Allen L. and Grace (Emsweller) Bender. He was married for 62 years to the former Patricia Bailey who survives.

Dale was a 1950 graduate of Milton High School and served in the Air Force for 22 years participating in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Force Commendation Medal and others.  

Upon retiring from the Air Force he worked at American Home Foods, Milton.  

He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Milton, a member of the American Legion Post 71, Milton, the Milton Masonic Lodge 256 F&A.M., the Sioux City, Iowa Chapter 26 R.A.M., Zodak Council 24 R.&S.M., Columbian Commandery No.18 K.T., and York Rite College No. 11, Shamokin.  

Dale played football, baseball, and basketball in school and stayed interested in local sports, especially Milton’s.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan since boyhood.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie “Stevie” and Bob Queen, of Hampstead, N.C., and Dalene “Deene” and Gary “Gator” Mathias, of Milton; one brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Brenda Bender, of Kennewick, Wash.: one sister and brother-in-law, Allene and Ozzie Engleman, of Milton; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Queen and Courtney Perry; four great-grandchildren, Noah and Skylar Perry, and Tyler and Ava Queen.

Friends and relatives will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday with a Masonic service at 11:45 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 1125 Mahoning St., Milton, followed by the funeral at 1 with the Rev. Patricia Pittsnogle officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Harmony Cemetery, Milton.
