DORNSIFE — Earl S. “Chip” Kessler, 83, of Dornsife, passed away on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at SUN Home Hospice Care Center, Sunbury.
He was born Dec. 18, 1928, in Erdman, a son of the late Sinary R. and Lola (Zerby) Kessler. On Aug. 29, 1953, he married the former Nancy Adams who survives. They celebrated 59 years of marriage.
He attended the Kessler School in Erdman and served with the Army from Oct. 9, 1950 to Sept.22, 1952, where he was stationed in Germany.
Chip was employed as a coal miner for 35 years having been employed at various local coal mines.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his younger years enjoyed coon hunting and trapping. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed Indian artifacts
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and William Astorino, of Sunbury, and two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Alice Kessler, of Landisburg and Craig and Trudy Kessler, of Dornsife; seven grandchildren, Michelle Dolce, Elaine Kaup, Jamie Schaeffer, Mickey Kessler, Garin Delancy and Dustin and Brandon Kessler; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leon Kessler, and one sister, Carolyn Troutman, both of Elizabethville; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister and an infant brother, a brother, Mark Kessler, and two sisters, Mae Deppen and Pauline Fetterolf Coleman
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, 1133 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, followed by a memorial service at 11 with Pastor Jane Compton officiating.
Interment will follow in Himmel’s Cemetery, Rebuck.
