George A. Ahearn, 83, Watsontown

— WATSONTOWN — George A. Ahearn, 83, of East Eighth Street, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Watsontown Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born July 26, 1949, in Columbia County, a son of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Hilands) Ahearn.

He married the former Deloras E. Ranck who survives. They celebrated 64 years of marriage on Nov. 20, 2012.

George was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War with the Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne Division.  

He retired from American Home Foods, Milton.

He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watsontown,

George enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sherry Ahearn, of Northumberland, Dale Betts, of Milton; five grandchildren, Stacy Ritter, Joshua Bailey, Quinn Ahearn, Tiffany Shrawder and Nathan Ahearn; and nine great-grandchildren.  

George was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and William Ahearn.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Watsontown Cemetery with his pastor, the Rev. James H. Fladland officiating. There will be no visitation.

The family will provide flowers and suggest contributions in George’s memory be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Main St., Watsontown, PA  17777.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home, 124 Main Street, Watsontown.
