Ralph W. Zimmerman, 88, Mifflinburg

— MIFFLINBURG — Ralph Wilson Zimmerman, 88, of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 4:45 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where he had been a resident since 2012.

He was born Oct. 2, 1925, in Mifflinburg, a son of the late Ralph Washington Zimmerman and Minnie (Sauers) Zimmerman. On Aug. 5, 1946, he married the former Patricia A. Schrader, who preceded him in death Oct. 1, 2011.

He has been a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg, since 1946, where he served on the church council and as a Sunday school superintendent.

Ralph was a 1944 graduate of Mifflinburg High School, starting his military service in Feb. 1944 when he was drafted, along with any other able 18-year-olds, prior to graduation ceremonies.

He served during World War II in the Army from Feb. 28, 1944 until his honorable discharge April 28, 1946. He was decorated with the European Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Word War II Victory Medal.

Ralph was a self-employed contractor carpenter and also worked for the Carpenter’s Union in Central Southeastern Pennsylvania for 10 years.

He was a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 370, Mifflinburg, Williamsport Consistory, and Scottish Rite.

Ralph enjoyed hunting, spending time outdoors, camping with his wife in their RV, singing in the choir and serving in many capacities with his Masonic brothers.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Kerwyn S. and Susan Zimmerman, of Warrington, and R. Kurtis and Linda Zimmerman, of New Berlin; one daughter and son-in-law, Karla D. and Ronald Fabian, of Leesport; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jenifer Fabian, of Chicago, Deanna and Ralph Herman, of Birdsboro, Abby Zimmerman and fiancé, Brian Foster of Paoli, Chelsea and Keith Rounds, of Warrington, Katrina and Ross Mitchell, of Millmont, and Melissa and Justin Laidacker, of Lewisburg; and five great-grandchildren, Madeline Herman, Rachel Herman, Ava Mitchell, Emma Mitchell and Brady Laidacker.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Zimmerman; and four sisters, Evelyn Pick, Edith Young, Betty Davis, and Alice Heimbach; and one great-grandson, Jacob Laidacker.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Susan Gabbard, officiating. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
