CENTRALIA -- Lamar Mervine, 93, of 411 Troutwine St., passed away on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, in the Shamokin Area Community Hospital.
He was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Centralia, a son of the late Lamar and Jesse (Bowers) Mervine. He was married to Lanna Smith who preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2008.
He was a graduate of Conyngham Township High School.
Lamar was the former mayor of Centralia and had been employed as an operating engineer on construction with Local 542, Harrisburg. In his younger years, he worked in the Centralia Collieries
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Carmel.
He is survived by one son, Harold Mervine, of Ranshaw; one sister, Harriet Flannery, of Norristown; one brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Sally Mervine, of Selinsgrove; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Owens, and one brother, William.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday followed by the funeral at 11, at the Willard A. Rothermel Funeral Home, 120-122 S. Market St., Mount Carmel, with Pastor Daniel Siddle officiating.
Burial will be in Christ Church Cemetery.
