Escaped convict charged in 2006 killing of former boss

CHAMBERSBURG (AP) _ Pennsylvania State Police have charged an escaped convict with homicide in the 2006 slaying of his former boss.

Police say 27-year-old Scott North went to Carl Ryder's house in Huntingdon County after walking away from a work-release job in Shippensburg in August 2006. Police say he then killed Ryder and stole his car and driver's license.

Ryder's body was found six days after police captured North following a high-speed chase. Police aren't releasing details of the killing but say Ryder died of blunt force trauma.

Franklin County authorities say North was serving time for theft, burglary and nonpayment of support when he walked away from his work-release job during lunch. He was charged with homicide Friday.
