ZELIENOPLE (AP) _ A Butler County soldier has been killed on guard duty in Afghanistan.
The soldier's father, James Brown, tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he got word of 20-year-old Pfc. Matthew Brown's death on Sunday. Matthew Brown was from Zelienople and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. before he was deployed to Afghanistan on Dec. 31.
According to the post, the soldier died Sunday morning in Asadabad and the death is under investigation. Brown says the Army told him his son was shot while on guard duty.
Brown says the Army did not provide many other details of his son's death, but he expects to receive more information soon.
Brown was assigned to Charlie Battery, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade.
