Pittsburgh graffiti writer admits causing $300K in damages

PITTSBURGH (AP) _ A Pittsburgh man admits causing nearly $300,000 in damages by spray painting graffiti around the city.

Twenty-two-year-old Daniel Montano pleaded guilty to dozens of graffiti-related charges Friday in Allegheny County Court. He faces more than $300,000 in fines and restitution and a maximum of 130 years in prison.

Defense attorney William Cercone Jr. says Montano is a skilled artist, but turned to graffiti because he was hanging out with the wrong people and had a drug addiction.

Cercone says Montano "understands today what he did is wrong. He's remorseful. He's sorry."

Montano is scheduled to be sentenced on July 24.
