HART'S LOCATION, N.H. (AP) _ Two hikers from Pennsylvania cut short their planned multi-day traverse of the Presidential Range in New Hampshire's White Mountains after they got off their trail and ran into snow depths of 3 to 5 feet.
Fish and Game Department Sgt. James Juneau says the two had started their hike Monday and planned to hike through Friday. A search-and-rescue mission started Thursday morning when one of the hikers made a cell phone call for help to the Appalachian Mountain Club.
The hikers, 19-year-old Gregory Pine of Newtown, Pa., and 20-year-old Robert Hogan of Langhorne, Pa., reported they were wet and cold and off the trail. One had lost a sneaker.
Juneau says Pine and Hogan eventually walked themselves out to a road. Both were in fairly good condition, although Pine sustained wounds to both feet.
