Dick’s seeks $7.25M from state for new offices

IMPERIAL (AP) — Dick’s Sporting Goods wants $7.25 million from the state for roads, sewers and other improvements for its planned headquarters near Pittsburgh International Airport.

Dick’s is already receiving a 10-year, 50 percent abatement on county and local taxes to help develop the project.

The new complex will sit on 116 acres owned by the Allegheny County Airport Authority, which has been trying to spur development near the airport. The new offices will have direct access to an airport taxiway to make air travel for vendors and employees more convenient.

Dick’s employs about 950 at its current headquarters and plans to hire another 700 over the next five years.

Dick’s operates about 340 stores in 36 states, but has plans to expand to 800 stores nationwide in the next seven years. It hopes to open the first phase of its new offices by September 2009.

Dick's is opening a new store later this year in the Monroe Marketplace, along Routes 1--15, in Monroe Township, Snyder County.
