YARDLEY (AP) _ Police say a woman and a child were struck by lightning at a suburban Philadelphia swim club.

It happened Wednesday afternoon at the Brookside Swim & Tennis Club in Bucks County.

Lower Makefield Township Police Chief Ken Coluzzi says the 25-year-old woman was a baby sitter caring for a 3-year-old boy. He says a thunderstorm came in suddenly and the woman and child were heading into the clubhouse to take shelter when they passed by a tree. He says the lightning hit the tree and went down to the ground, shocking the two of them.

Also Wednesday, lightning struck the door of the Bethel Township Fire Company in Delaware County. A police officer was knocked off his feet and hospitalized; a firefighter was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
