American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes program

The Daily Item

— MIDDLEBURG — The Snyder County Commissioners and other officials at the courthouse signed cards for service men and women and allowed a box to be present for a week for the collection of signed cards from employees. Hundreds of cards were collected and will be sent to men and women serving in all branches of the armed forces all over the world.

“These cards mean so much to those who are far from home at this time of year, especially when they have a personal note of thanks and best wishes inside them,” said Edna Reinard, Disaster Services and Service to the Armed Forces director for the SUN Area chapter of the American Red Cross. Members of the community are reminded to come to the chapter located at 249 Farley Circle, Lewisburg, from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 4 for a card signing. They are invited to bring homemade cookies to share. Those not consumed that day will be given to veterans living in local nursing homes. Guests are also asked to bring a box or two of cards to share.

Every year the American Red Cross provides service to members of the military and their families here at home and around the globe. From financial assistance to advice on coping during deployments, military personnel and their families can access ready help from their local chapter and their base service.
