PAXINOS — The public is invited to attend the annual Easter service at the “Old Rugged Cross” on the mountaintop overlooking Route 61 at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
This year marks the 52nd anniversary of a cross being on the mountain and the 27th year of services.
John Miller, former Explorer adviser, had his Scouts erect the first cross in 1961. In 1986, Scoutmaster Harvey Buriak thought it was only fitting to keep the landmark alive and took his Scouts up the mountain and replaced the original cross. They also used a generator to create electricity for floodlights to illuminate the cross.
A gospel music group, The Original Couriers, will present a concert Saturday.
