GKN Hoeganaes Corp. Visits Kids’ Café

— WATSONTOWN — Employees of the GKN Hoeganaes Corporation, Milton, will visit Kids’ Café at the Watsontown Memorial Park each month this summer. The first visit was June 18 to be followed on July 16 and Aug. 13. The programs are arranged by Drew Tomkins, a Hoeganaes employee and a member of the Watsontown United Methodist Church. The employees will make and serve milk shakes and lead the kids in various games and sporting events.

Kids’ Café prepares and serves free lunches every weekday at Watsontown Memorial Park. The program is a ministry of the Watsontown United Methodist Church, Rev. Ryan Krauss, pastor. So far this summer, over 380 free lunches have been served to children ages 17 and under. Last year over 1,500 meals were served. Lunches are available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The atmosphere is more like a day camp as special activities and fun-time events follow lunch.

Special activities and programs are offered during the summer including regular Monday visits by Angelene Coyne, a staff member at the Montgomery House-Warrior Run Library who brings books for children to take home to read. Each Thursday karate instructions are offered by Rev. Ryan Krauss, pastor of the Watsontown United Methodist Church and a 4th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor of the International Tang Soo Do Federation. Additional events planned for the summer include two bike rodeos: June 25 and July 23 and parents’ day Aug. 20, the final day of Kids’ Café, 2014.

Community children enjoy lunch together at the open pavilion (or inside the enclosed pavilion on rainy days) and to play, make new friends and have fun in the park. Community adults who would like to share a talent, prepare and serve lunch, or offer financial support are invited to contact the Watsontown United Methodist Church at (570) 538-1017.
