Northumberland National Bank announces grant

NORTHUMBERLAND -- Continuing a long standing tradition of financial partnership and volunteer involvement, J. Donald Steele Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Northumberland National Bank, announced a grant of $70,000 in sustained support of the educational classroom programs of EconomicsPennsylvania and their work with teachers and students, K-12 grades. In announcing the contribution, Steele noted the funds were part of the bank’s participation in the Pennsylvania State Educational Improvement Tax Credit Act opportunity which helped make possible the availability of that level of financial support for the Selinsgrove based statewide organization, the single largest not for profit economic education and financial literacy agency in the Commonwealth.

In presenting the check to Andy Russell, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and Pennsylvania State Senator John R. Gordner, both members of the EconomicsPennsylvania state Board of Directors, Steele commented that the educational initiatives of EconomicsPennsylvania complemented the commitment of the bank to help foster greater community wide public service with a special focus on young people. “It’s certainly no secret that young people must be encouraged and taught to make reasonable and sound decisions based on prudent judgments and rational thinking. They must also understand that nearly every personal decision is somehow related to an economic consequence and EconomicsPennsylvania is doing everything possible to help prepare our children for successful participation in the 21st century economic environment and I’m very proud Northumberland National Bank is a part of that process,” Steele noted.
